Day 16

October 10, 2010 aka 10/10/10

Rainy day here today. What I do love about the wetness are all the smells that come with it. The wet earth, the growing plants, wet pavement. Every little scent seems magnified.

Back in Boulder today is our neighbourhood block party. We're sad to be missing it and all our friends.

But our couch was delivered today, in four boxes, and after some simple assemblage we had a new couch in our living room! That's really handy when more than one person wants to sit in that room.

We also did lots of unpacking/repacking today. Two steps forward, three steps back. More stuff out of boxes, some stuff back in, less organization throughout the house but stuff is being accomplished... I think. We're trying to go through everything. Take everything out of boxes, get rid of it or keep it, then leave it out or store it for the year. A good but tedious process.

I was chewing some gum at one point, and Jacob was curious about it. I told him he couldn't have any but he could taste mine. So, he licks my gum, makes a mostly disgusted face but says, "mmm" as if he likes it. He does this several more times, thinking it's pretty funny. A little while later, Fraser asks him what he's chewing on. "You've been chewing on something for awhile now," Fraser says. "What is it?" "Gum," Jacob says. I almost peed myself. He was chewing on the inside of his cheek. Hilarious. Brilliant. I just love it.

Went to a nice little place for dinner: Rock Creek Tavern. I'm pretty sure that's the name. I saw it on the way to the pumpkin patch the other day, and it looked cozy. Old wooden building with lots of vegetation surrounding it and some patio tables. Inside was just as cozy. Many different lanterns in shades of red and orange lit the inside. A fire place off to one side and an upstairs where you could also peer down below. A large mushroom light; really, it's like a mushroom statute and under the head are lights so it shines softly from underneath. Some live Irish music was a nice addition to the evening.  Apparently it's part of this group of microbreweries, the McMenamins, that have a bunch of breweries around the Northwest and feature local music and such. Cool. Kind of reminded us of the Mt. Sun in Boulder. Jacob had the hot dog parts of some corn dogs (wouldn't touch the outside part) and then ate half my portabella and red bell pepper sandwhich. We wish they offered things like that on the kids' menu!
